The scar on Skye’s knee is in the shape of a smile
Scenario
Just before her world tour, pop sensation Skye Riley begins experiencing increasingly terrifying and unexplained events. Overwhelmed by the escalating horrors and pressures of fame, Skye is forced to confront her past. In one scene, Skye places a VOSS water bottle on a stone/marble kitchen counter and a sound is heard that resembles the sound of something plastic being placed on it.
An improvement over the (good) original
VOSS water bottles are made of glass, which is actually highlighted in the film, and thus the audio does not match the action shown. Skye Riley: [to the Smile Entity] You’re not in control, I am!. Included in The 7PM Project: Episode dated October 17, 2024 (2024).
The rest of the cast is good, eg
Naomi Scott’s performance is superb, she is so convincing and completely committed to her role from start to finish – so much so that it elevates the film as a whole to a new level. Rosemarie DeWitt, but Smile 2 is very much Scott’s film. The running time is perhaps a little longer than it needs to be, but to be honest, that’s only a minor criticism in the grand scheme of things.
Much of what is on screen helps to avoid any potential (minor) pacing issues
The violence and bloodshed is quite graphic, but well done and exactly what we expect from a production of this nature, let’s be honest. I must say that there are a few too many cheap shock moments here, which I’m not a huge fan of, but just like above, it’s not an in-betweenness that detracts from the overall quality of the final result. Based on the ending, the next sequel could be very entertaining – let’s hope so!
